President's Message

Nicholas W. Shammas, MD, MS, EJD, FACC, FSCAI, FICA

Recently I conducted my last meeting with our council as a Governor of the IA ACC Chapter. Mahi Ashwath, MD, Governor-Elect will be taking over the chapter responsibilities after the National ACC Convocation in Chicago in March of this year. I would like formally to welcome Dr Ashwath as the Governor of the IA ACC Chapter. I know the Chapter will be in superb and capable hands. I also want to take the opportunity to thank all the IA ACC chapter membership and the IA ACC Chapter council members for their tremendous input, help and insights during the past 3 years. Like they say: you are as good as the people that surround you. I can easily say that I have been surrounded by the finest. It has been a true pleasure working with all.

I want to specifically acknowledge Nancy Adams. Nancy, the executive director of the chapter, has been with the chapter from day 1. She has been a guiding angel for me and to all the previous governors. I could have not done it without her.  Her extensive knowledge and insights into the chapter and the national ACC operation are priceless to any governor or council member or any member of our chapter. Many things have been accomplished over the past 3 years most importantly having the membership see the value of collaboration and working together as a team to accomplish many positive things. The overall success of the past 3 years was due to the fact that everyone that contributed had the passion and the believe to make things better for the cardiovascular field, patients and our community. Embracing the collaborative effort among all chapter members (and other ACC chapters), and working toward the national ACC mission of improving heart health, in my opinion, remain the main engine for success as a chapter. I wish for Dr Ashwath, Nancy Adams and the entire membership the best for a highly successful upcoming 3 years. Let another chapter of fun and success begins...
